About Trent Jarvis

Where did you live while growing up?

I was born and raised in Broomfield, Colorado. I graduated from Broomfield High School in 2010 and cherished growing up in the Front Range community. My parents and my wife’s family live in the area. After high school, I attended the University of Oklahoma for my Bachelor’s Degree, then completed my Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and my residency training at a busy family medicine clinic in the heart of Oklahoma City.

When did you know you wanted to practice medicine?

My mother is a teacher and my father a dentist. Growing up, I saw the fulfillment they found in their professions by helping others, and I felt the importance of choosing a career where I might serve others and the community. Later in my life, shadowing a few primary care physicians solidified the idea of practicing medicine. I deeply admired their connection with patients and the bonds they formed through the years. There is something special about caring for someone from the day they are born through adulthood. That relationship and longevity sets Family Medicine apart and sparks my passion for medicine as a whole.

What is the most inspiring part of family medicine?

Preventative medicine is a pillar of Family Medicine. Whenever we can prevent, find, or treat something early in the disease process, it profoundly impacts someone’s prognosis and is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. Conversely, seeing patients’ resilience as they battle difficult conditions is the most inspiring part of my job. By taking a more holistic view, I can support and help patients navigate medical decisions and make sure that treatments align with their values and goals.

What do you think are the best skills you bring to your practice?

Communication is vital to any therapeutic relationship; a significant part is active listening and collaboration. Patients must be heard and have input to work together toward the best plan for each individual. In any good relationship, there is give and take, and I do a good job honoring each patient’s values while providing high-level care. During my training in Oklahoma, where there are some of the greatest health disparities in the country, I gained extensive experience serving communities with complex and challenging medical needs. As a result, I am well prepared to provide comprehensive medical care to everyone.

What is your philosophy of care?

As a family physician, I have the opportunity to approach a patient’s health from a broad perspective. Mental, physical, and social aspects of health are all deeply intertwined, and I aim to help take care of individuals as a whole.

What do you enjoy in your free time?

My wife and I like to do almost anything outdoors, whether hiking, biking, fishing, golfing or anything else you can think of. In 2021 we had our first child, a baby girl, and we have been enjoying the highs and challenges of parenthood. I love watching almost any sport and hold a special place in my heart for University of Oklahoma athletics and the Denver Broncos. I also love to cook (and eat) and am excited to return to the Colorado food scene. The Front Range is the community I grew up in, and it has always been a dream of mine to return to serve the people of Colorado who helped me become who I am today.
