Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Recognizing that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices improve patient experiences and create an atmosphere of belonging throughout our entire organization, Boulder Medical Center commits to integrating DEI into everything we do.
Our DEI Committee, comprised of BMC board members, providers, and staff, recently completed its initial charter and developed a set of initiatives to expand and sustain a workplace culture where everyone representing diverse identities, beliefs, and perspectives feels welcome, respected, engaged, and safe.
As part of this program, we collaborated with Social Justice Associates equity and inclusion consultants to evaluate our current DEI efforts and outline strategies and tactics for 2022 and beyond. BMC employees and providers participated in surveys, in-person data gathering, and DEI learning sessions. Many BMC staff members also earned their DEI Foundational Certification and will help elevate DEI conversations in the workplace, support program objectives, and evaluate ongoing efforts.
“Boulder Medical Center considers Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as a culture we build and sustain, not simply an activity we “check off” as done,” says Donna Basden, CEO. “We intend to continue and grow our commitment to compassion and respect for individuals across the entire range of intersecting identities and ideological perspectives. Ensuring that our team members and patients feel a sense of belonging and support is an important way that Boulder Medical Center can support the health and well-being of our community.”
